A children’s museum provides great opportunities for children to play, laugh, learn and thoroughly enjoy themselves. Every city that has a children’s museum is a lucky one, and Lincoln, Nebraska is one of those. The Lincoln Children’s Museum is located at 1420 P Street in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Lincoln Children’s Museum is a non-profit organization, and is also a member of the Association of Children’s Museums. The museum was a vision of area parents and teachers, and that vision became a reality in 1989. The museum changed locations several times as it grew, and is now located in the current space at 1420 P Street. It encompasses over 45,000 square feet with many activities for children to do at every turn. It is no wonder that it has been named one of Nebraska’s outstanding attractions.

The museum has many different activities on each of the three floors. Some of them include experiencing life as a fireman or policeman, getting a chance to be an astronaut at the lunar mission control area, etc. Kids and parents can learn about weather and communications at the news unit, and study various types of science, including learning about what keeps hot air balloons afloat.

There are many different types of role-play that children can try out in wonderful settings. They can attempt hundreds of different experiments to learn about cause and effect and the world around them. The Lincoln Children’s Museum also has interesting and fun activities going on at the museum all the time, so visitors can continuously experience something new. Children of all ages can enjoy interacting in this great hands-on environment.

The museum store is a good place to end a visit to the Lincoln Children’s Museum. It is a great space filled with fun things to purchase. This store also features creative and innovative items that you probably would not find anywhere else, as well as excellent toys and educational items from acclaimed designers and companies, like building sets from Melissa & Doug, creative books and activities from Klutz and gear building sets from Learning Resources. All of the proceeds from the museum go to the upkeep of current exhibits and building new ones.

Admission prices are $6 for everyone over the age of two, $5.50 for seniors, and free for members and children under the age of two. The hours for the museum are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On Sundays, it is open from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. From October to April, the museum is open until 7:30 p.m. on Family Thursday nights and it is generally closed on Mondays. It is also closed on holidays and for one week during the month of September. Parking is usually found at several area parking garages, and museum patrons can ask for discounted parking rates when paying for admission.
