Cedar County Historical Museum - Hartington, Nebraska
In the community of Hartington there is the cedar County Historical Museum which until a new 40 x 60 foot building was built was located in what, in 1900, was a private home. The house was filled with treasures of the Nebraska heritage to display for your education and enjoyment. Now the new building houses even more of the antique machinery and horse drawn buggies. The museum also houses Hartington’s first fire engine and a restored Model T.
The museum complex also includes a genuine log cabin and a carriage house for you to enjoy.

In the Hartington area there are also a number of other historic sites for you to visit while in town. There is the Wiseman Memorial (26 miles northeast of Hartington). This memorial was built in 1926 in memory of the five children of Henson Wiseman, who were slain by a party of Yankton and Santee Sioux in 1865.
Also in Hartington is the Skylon Ballroom that still is an active ballroom with the history of such greats as Guy Lombardo and Lawrence Welk having played there in the past. It is also open for roller-skating on Sunday afternoons and available for private skating parties. The Bow Valley Ballroom is located seven miles north of Hartington in the hamlet of Bow Valley. The original ballroom was built in 1896 in the same location it is in today. For more information about the dances here call Danny Thoene at 402-254-6766.
For a smaller community there is quiet a variety of things to do and see in Hartington and the surrounding area.
